By securing the tree with a tree strap, the tree is kept in the correct position. Tying should not be done too loosely, because then the tree strap can rub against the bark and there is a chance that the tree will be crooked. Tying on too tightly can (after a longer period of time) result in constriction. By securing the tree with the tree strap, which has been placed correctly, it is prevented from blowing over, skewing or damaging itself.

This tree-band is also called a seatbelt.
