Description
Super nest boxes for the Dutch kingfisher!
This type of nesting tubes has been used successfully for decades.
Nesting tubes are recommended where kingfishers and bank swallows cannot dig the tubes themselves.
This is the case under the following circumstances:
- at very stony steep walls
- Extremely rooted steep slopes
- In bank walls
- in artificially raised or similarly constructed steep walls
Material
Breathable and temperature-regulating lightweight concrete, prevents formation of condensation in the incubator.
Design
The underside of the bottom has fine mesh, which prevents rodents from entering. The nesting chamber is closed from above with a lid.
Breeding behavior kingfisher
The "flying gem," the kingfisher, has a habit of performing first and second broods in different tubes. Therefore, it is recommended to integrate two brood tubes in the same steep wall. However, the distance should be at least 70 cm.
Breeding behavior bank swallow
This species forms colonies of never less than a dozen breeding pairs along natural watercourses or natural steep shorelines, as well as in "second-hand biotopes," e.g. gravel and loam quarries.
