Beech trees that get sun on the trunk due to changed circumstances can get sunburn and die. This can happen when a beech tree is pruned in such a way that the sun can shine on the bark.
What happens more often is that this circumstance arises due to the loss of an adjacent tree, this is often the reason that a beech avenue loses specimens year after year.
One possibility is to treat the trunk with a coating, which allows the bark to adapt to the changed situation. Such as the protective agent "Cortiflex". This white coating is applied with a broad brush and weathers after about two to five years.
